2A: Bug List

1. There is no parking on the UF campus that students have to park their car miles away from their dorm.
- The admission into UF keeps increasing and the layout of the college was not properly planned to hold enough parking spaces if every student brought a car.

2. The cable industry is going out of business from online competitors like Hulu and Netflix.
- People are starting to realize how expensive cable television is when you can get it online for much cheaper or free and can watch it at your own convinence.

3. People don’t say thank you as much as they say please and instead either don’t respond at all or say yup.
- Proper manners were not taught manners that often at a young age in this generation.

4. The wait time on the UF bus app doesn’t reflect its actual time of arrival at all times of the day.
- The app tracks how slow or fast as well as the location of the bus and predicts its time of arrival without considering if it will stop for people at each stop or if the bus is too full.

5. The tapingo online ordering takes just as long as waiting in line at the Reitz.
- The workers, especially during lunch and dinner time, are more focused on the people waiting in line in front of them rather than checking the machine for any online orders.

6. It’s harder to get a job with only a bachelor’s degree after graduating in college.
- People realize they are much more likely to get hired with a master’s degree and it is very easy to obtain one through online classes or combined degree programs.

7. The commercials for a normal 1-hour television show are longer than the program.
- Television providers need more advertisements due to the increase in money to air the show in their competitive environment.

8. My schedule contains a class at 7:25am and then another at 8pm making it hard to find things to do throughout the middle of the day.
- Due to the large number of classes offered in the business school, it is hard to have a convenient time for all of them in the afternoon.

9. The stereotype of college is partying all day and night and never doing any work while still graduating with a perfect GPA.
- School wasn’t nearly as hard or prestigious 10-20 years ago, so it was easier for older generations to finish their studying while having an avid social life. S

10. The heavy traffic flow around campus at 4pm-6pm when the gates open.
- Students want to drive and park their car on campus to go to events/clubs or to attend later classes in the day.

11. Fans at sports games get too intense in yelling or offensive towards their favored team.
- People grew up with certain teams and may have placed bets on whether their team wins or not, which makes them very focused on the outcome and every play in the game.

12. Cars don’t stop on campus for pedestrians to cross the road and vice versa, pedestrians don’t look for cars and wait for them to stop.
- Students are usually in a hurry to get to class or meet someone and don’t bother to look across the street whether they are walking or driving.

13. People’s cars are a mess or old trash, clothes, and food when they know they are driving people around.
- Your car is yours only, which means you can do anything you want with it that makes you most comfortable. If you need to be prepared for any situation with a suitcase of clothes and weeks’ worth of food in your car, then that’s your decision.

14. When we have to purchase our online access code for homework for $200+ as well as a $600 textbook from the UF bookstore.
- UF doesn’t have enough money to fund every course’s materials and textbooks, which forces students to pay for all their resources of the class on top of tuition.

15. People talk too loudly in hallways and slam doors on their way out.
- When we are in a rush and there is no rubber doorstopper, it can echo in the hallways and be louder for some than others.

16. Standing in line to pick up football tickets for hours in order to get a random pick of seats along with your friend’s IDs.
- UF has not created an online platform to connect student’s IDs and pick their seats online giving them to change to print their tickets or use their phone. This way, there is no room for error or trading tickets.

17. During the winter season in Gainesville, it can be around 30 degrees in the morning and night and 90 degrees in the afternoon.
- Global warming and the fact that we live in Florida leaves the weather to be very unpredictable and constantly changing in every season.

18. We don’t learn the certifications we need to progress in our future careers in college.
- It is hard to appease every student’s career goals in a class of 1,000+ students. Instead we learn big, overall topics of the industry based on our major.

19. Amazon doesn’t offer Prime one/two-day shipping for all of their products.
- Some products are more expensive to ship based on the location of the product as well as its dimensions and weight.

20. When people don’t respond to text messages or phone calls for hours or a week later.
- We all have a busy lifestyle and some small aspects get lost throughout our day.

Reflection:

From the beginning, this assignment was difficult for me. I always try to see the light in any situation and not dwell on things that “bug me.” It took a lot of thinking and looking through another perspective throughout the week to think of things that annoy me enough to make a difference like an entrepreneur would. But once you start thinking about a topic, it is easier to think of 3-4 bugs until I reach all 20 bugs.

  1. Hi, Jessica!

Great bug list! Regarding Bug #19, I'm addicted to Amazon, and what's worse is I work on a computer all day so it is very easy for me to open up a new browser and start shopping online! It bugs me too when the product listed won't be delivered in 2 days, and what bugs me most is I noticed that the prices change for the same item depending on when you're browsing, even if it's just by a few cents to a few dollars, but still highly irritating if the price goes up.

Also, I am guilty of #20! I wouldn't say weeks, but sometimes it takes me a few hours to respond to a text message, or I will wait until I am done with work or whatever project I am working on to respond. Sometimes, I am just unable to respond right away, but I eventually will! I know it may come off as rude or that I am ignoring the person who texted, so I really think there's room for opportunity to clear that problem up!

  2. Hi Jessica,

Your bug #19 also bugs me as well because I'm not the most patient person ever and I would be much happier to have my stuff sooner than later. It's hard to get excited with something being mailed to you if Prime doesn't offer 1/2 day shipping on the product you bought.

I'm a little guilty of #13, my car can have some granola bar wrappers and empty water bottles. However, if I know I'm going to drive someone then I will try to clean it up before hand. Sometimes I drive people without planning and I do apologize for the mess. It's something I can work on!

You had a great bug list!

  3. Hello Jessica, this bug list hit home for on many different fronts but none more than the ninth bug. The perception of being able to party all day and night and still getting a perfect GPA is a thing of the past. The idea of having to pick between sleep, work, schoolwork, and social life is all too real. Your last bug also seems too true. People not responding for hours to a text message it something that really annoys me and I can't stand when people don't respond even though you know they are on their phone.
